What are you most proud of from this assignment, and why?
I am most proud of me furthering my cooking/food knowledge. I already have a decent amount of chef experience from classes I've taken. Despite never making ice-cream before, it felt easy and familiar. I recently used another recipe to make some in my electric ice-cream maker. We also made the best ice-cream in the class and ended up making 3-4 more batches. Which 21st Century Skills do you feel this assignment addresses, and why? This addresses my interpersonal and communication skills. Me and my partner needed to take turns mixing the ingredients together and shaking the ice bag in order to freeze it. These skills are extremely valuable and will be used in almost all professions. How did you develop and/or improve upon your 21st Century Skills with this assignment? Me and my partner had to communicate about the ingredient amounts and steps. I understand how foods interact with each other far better now. I learned about how salt and ice can cool milk until a frozen state. Vanilla ice-cream is very simple to make and now I know how to make it for cheap. What was most difficult about completing this task? The most difficult part of this assignment was the freezing step due to us having to vigorously shake the bag of ice and ice-cream. Mixing the 3 ingredients was simple enough and didn't need much critical thinking to do. In order to freeze the now mixed liquid, we needed to shake the bag very fast for about 10 minutes. The bag was very cold and needed a towel over it as to not get frostbite. How could you improve this work? If you could start over, what would you do differently? If I could restart this assignment, I would've brought better cones for the ice-cream. The ones that were brought by another student were waffle style. Due to the ice cream not being kept in a cold enough environment and not frozen thoroughly, it started to leak out the bottom of the cones very fast. We tried to give one of the cones to Mrs. Federoff but it started to melt out the bottom too quickly. How does this relate to what you have learned in the past? I have always loved baking and making foods, so much so that I've partaken in multiple classes for being a chef. I have never made any frozen dishes, making this a new genre of food for my knowledge. I mainly only do dishes that require a stove to make. How can you apply this to future learning? Making food is a extremely valuable necessity in all of life. You cant go long without eating which makes any knowledge of food helpful. Making food also can be very impressive for social skills too. |
