What did this assignment entail?
-The idea of this lab was if you were to hand a person your notebook they would be able to create the experiment from start to finish. It would include the physics they learned as they experimented and a step by step tutorial on how to build. We were to do this for both an egg drop and a newtons cradle. What are you most proud of from this assignment, and why? -I'm extremely happy with how my egg drop casing came out since I veered away from my original plan quite drastically. The egg survived a 2.5 floor drop without damage and even bounced at the bottom. What was most difficult about completing this task? -The hardest part was deciding what materials I wanted to use and what design was going to work best. my original plan was to create a icosahedron which is a 20 sided shape. It was mostly a joke since I couldn't think of a good design but as I attempted to make one before I realized a smaller and simpler design could work better. How could you improve this work? If you could start over, what would you do differently? -I don't think I can improve on this since it came out extremely well and didn't have any downsides. Maybe I could've put more work into the preplanning but since I was still able to get it all done on the first day successfully, I feel like the good outweighs the bad. How does this relate to what you have learned in the past? How can you apply this to future learning? -I have done egg drops in the past so I was able to use my past knowledge on the strength of the materials and the egg itself to determine what would work and what wouldn't work. I knew that since triangles are the strongest shape as well as the skewer sticks being slightly bendy, I was able to make sure the egg not only stayed stable but also would have some spring to protect it further. Which 21st Century Skill do you feel this assignment addresses, and why? How did you develop and/or improve upon your 21st Century Skill with this assignment? -This assignment primarily improved my Thinking and Problem Solving Skills. Since it was hands-on I had to solve my moments on confusion at that moment instead of putting it off or changing subject. From build to planning, there were a often problem that I needed to overcome. |
